Kajang Retirement Home – A Ministry of Love and Care

The LCM Retirement Home was established in 2003 as a ministry of social concern under the Lutheran Church of Malaysia (LCM). It began in a donated single-storey corner house at No. 1, Jalan S8, Taman Sakap, Kajang, serving female residents.

In 2006, a second home was opened just across the street at No. 8, Jalan S7, Taman Sakap, also in a donated property, to care for male residents. Both homes are officially registered with the Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat Negeri Selangor.

We operate on a charitable basis, primarily serving elderly individuals in need of shelter and care. Over time, we also began accepting seniors whose families are unable to care for them due to various circumstances. Our mission is to extend compassion, dignity, and care to the elderly and OKU (persons with disabilities)—as well as to provide day care services for those who return home in the evenings.

Currently, we care for 15 residents (10 women and 5 men) in separate homes. The female home is nearing full capacity, and plans are underway to add another dormitory to accommodate six more residents. The male home can still receive up to five additional residents.

Among our cherished residents was a lady who celebrated her 100th birthday in December 2019.

Our team comprises a supervisor and four dedicated staff—two general caregivers, one cook-cum-caregiver, and one driver-cum-caregiver. The home van is used for medical visits to hospitals and clinics, as well as for collecting donated food supplies (meat, vegetables, bread, etc.) from nearby markets and bakeries. We are deeply grateful for the long-term donors from three local markets who have faithfully supported us for over a decade, along with individuals, groups, and corporations who contribute in cash and kind.

We are also blessed with volunteers and visiting groups who bring joy and energy to our residents. Students from various colleges regularly organize gotong-royong sessions to clean and maintain the premises. A karaoke group visits every few months to entertain the residents, while a Chinese physician and his team occasionally provide acupressure and massage treatments. A UTAR medical student currently offers moxibustion therapy for a few residents.

In addition, a group of senior citizens led by Ps Peter Lee and Sister Peggy Chin from Semenyih Life Lutheran Church visits fortnightly for fellowship sessions—sharing hymns, short messages, and testimonies, often accompanied by refreshments lovingly prepared by the seniors’ group. Their faithful service and genuine care over the past two years have brought much warmth and encouragement to our residents.

We thank God for every donor, volunteer, and friend who helps us make this ministry a true home filled with compassion, care, and the love of Christ.
